The desk, with its clean look and straight lines, appears simple, but building it presents a number of woodworking challenges.

Unfortunately the most common design for this desk has a number of shortcomings that make it unsatisfactory for a low-stress computer desk. The surface is much too high for a keyboard. The desk is too big for most dorm rooms. The filing cabinets are expensive, take up leg room, and who needs two anyway. We can see if people are messy or neat. We can see if people surround themselves by inspiration in their workspace, or just focus on the task at hand inside the computer.
